The BMW Motorcycle Owners of America was formed in April of 1972 as an all-volunteer organization. According to the Articles of Incorporation, the BMW MOA was formed for the purpose of operating and maintaining a national BMW motorcycle owners club. The goal of the club is to promote the camaraderie and friendship of individual members and the chartered BMW motorcycle clubs.
RA is a full member of the International Council of BMW Clubs based in Munich and, as such, is the second largest BMW motorcycle club in the world.

The Iron Butt Association (IBA) does not have membership in the traditional sense, but there are several ways to earn membership. The most notable is for a rider to successfully complete of one of the rides they sponsor, such as the Saddle Sore 1000.
The IBMWR has been around since 1992 and is made up of the IBMWR mail list (better known as "the big list" in BMW motorcycles circles), this website, and folks from every continent on earth. "The list", with approximately 1500 members, is dedicated to the free exchange of information and ideas regarding BMW motorcycles
